Secondary Keywords

Welcome Back!!

Is conventional search engine optimization on the back burner? Are we in the process of seeing a substantial change in the way that websites are categorized and displayed according to their relevance? Some would think so and contend that the fabled Google LSI algorithm is now allocated significant, if not dominant weight by the search engine giant when indexing webpages.

Why should those who are interested in Internet marketing for small business care?

As it appears that Google LSI standards are now used to measure the impact of every website, then it goes without saying that some of the conventional methods of ranking are now set to change. There was a time when it was sufficient to optimize your website URL according to your favorite keywords. If you did this correctly, by making sure that your keyword appeared within an “H1″ heading, the page title, the tags and within the content of the page then you were off to the races. This represented a good start and would help to ensure that when somebody searched for your keywords, Google would consider the content and presentation of your site and might present it to the searcher to help them find the answer to their quest (maybe your product or service?)

If Google LSI is now the standard then we will have to pay much more attention to the actual content of the page itself. For example, it will not be sufficient to just mention the key word a certain number of times as the concept of Latent Semantic Indexing means that there must be a certain number of synonyms or associated words within the content as well. Google is able to determine the “weight” allocated to these other words, we could call them “secondary keywords” if you like, as it has studied an infinite number of authority sites dedicated to such keywords.

The concept of Latent Semantic Indexing is not new but there are SEO experts on the web who maintain that Google LSI compliance is far more important than ever before and is now one of the primary tools used by the search engines to rank your page.

If this is true, it should lead to a general increase in the standard of websites across the board. Content will become more readable and more informative and will not just be placed there to try and gain a good ranking for SEO purposes.

Would you simplify the concept of Google LSI by referring to it simply as a requirement to include “secondary keywords?”
