Link Building – Rank and Point!
Link building is an essential part of search engine marketing and as such should be considered when using Internet marketing for small business development. Inbound links are considered to be particularly important by the major search engines, including Google and are deemed to portray an element of authority.
What are links? Hyperlinks, to give them the full title, are basically “arrows” which point from one site to another. They can be attached to images or graphics or they can be in text form, when they are generally known as anchor text links. When you click on one of these links you automatically go to the targeted site.
Google considers link building, to establish a link from one site to the other, as being an endorsement by the linking site. If the linking site has a high “page rank” then additional weight is given (Google’s page rank refers to their interpretation of the importance of a website. Rank ranges from 0 to 10).
When a site uses anchor text to link to your site, they will use keywords to initiate the link and if these keywords match the primary keywords found on your site, additional scoring is given by those search engine kings.
While search engine optimization and marketing is very important and the number of authority links back to your site through link building an element of this, any links to your site have the potential to bring you direct traffic as well and should not be overlooked, even if they are from websites with no Google page rank!
Link building is a very large and complex subject and we will be covering it in greater detail in subsequent posts.
