Microsoft/Yahoo Bing Their Marriage, Finally
Today we see a momentous deal in the making between Microsoft and Yahoo. This has been in the works since 2005 by all accounts and has been stymied along the way by some questionable business decisions and by the lack of any real stimulus. As this has been going on behind the scenes Google has increased its absolute dominance in the world of search engine marketing and online advertising. It is estimated that people use Google 65 to 70% of the time when they are conducting a search for that valuable information, with the next two in line being Microsoft and Yahoo, way back there in the dust.
Does today’s announcement mean that Microsoft and Yahoo will achieve domination? Not likely, in our opinion. Google has become probably the most successful company in the entire United States at the moment and has elevated the business of search related marketing to a fine art.
Insiders reckon that the short-term success of Microsoft’s new search engine, Bing, pushed Yahoo into making this deal. We think that it can only be good for Internet marketing in the long haul and look forward to increased competition and a better product.
Of course what they all really need to concentrate on is an adequate search engine platform for the next wave – mobile Internet browsing.
What do you think? Will “Microhoo” breakthrough?
