Resource Boxes – Don’t Break the Link!
What are resource boxes? Well, they’re not really boxes at all, or at least they shouldn’t appear as if they are for best effect. The information contained within the resource is effectively an author bio and, for that best effect to come into play, should appear as the very last paragraph in an article information piece.
We all know how productive articles can be in helping to spread the word about your website, product or service and in helping to drive traffic to your website. Within Internet marketing for small business, article writing and distribution represents the top organic method of driving this traffic and will also help to establish you, as the author, as the expert in your niche.
When an article that you have written, or that has been written for you, appears at an authority site, a major article directory or within someone else’s blog, the copyright agreement dictates that the bio — the information contained in those resource boxes — is retained. The publisher may not remove it.
Within the resource boxes, “anchor text” is probably the most important element.
Anchor text is generally composed of your article primary keyword, optimized with HTML code into the form of a hyperlink. When the reader clicks on this anchor text he or she is transported to your landing page, at your website or blog, or wherever you want to send them to receive further information and to learn more about your product or service.
Resource boxes must be correctly composed and optimized and the HTML code must be perfectly formed. We often see broken links within resource boxes at the end of published articles and this is in effect a complete waste for the author. The primary purpose for writing these articles in the first place is to provide good and detailed information, but to leave the reader wanting more – in other words, click the anchor text/hyperlink to read on.
In many cases, the hyperlink contained within resource boxes can also double as a back link, which means that the search engines view the link between the publication site and your site as a “vote of confidence” in the content contained within your site. This, in SEO terms, can provide a boost in rankings.
