Tweeting Moonfruiters Get the Message

Did you know that Moonfruit, the British based web hosting company, was able to increase the number of hits to their website by over 1000% and to more than triple the number of people signing up to try their hosting packages, all through a fairly simple promotion on Twitter?

Moonfruit advertised that they would be giving away some Mac notebooks and to be eligible to enter all you needed to do was to “tweet” a hash tag, #moonfruit.

People became very creative with their tweets and the promotion went viral, rising to the top of Twitter’s hot trend list and staying there for some time.

It seems that Moonfruit succeeded where other high profile companies have failed by avoiding the “hard sell” and creating some interest based around social interaction and novelty.
